Our School: Mission, Vision and Values

Welcome to the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington
Founded in 2016, GLOW Academy opened its doors with a single class of 100 sixth-grade students. Today, we proudly serve students in grades 6 through 12 on our vibrant campus. With two graduating classes to date, we’re thrilled to share that every student in the Class of 2025 was accepted into a college or university!

At GLOW, we are dedicated to providing a distinctive all-girls public school experience. Our mission centers on educating the whole girl through rigorous college-preparatory coursework and fostering the social and emotional skills needed for lifelong success.

Our school culture inspires students to lead balanced lives by building confidence, compassion, critical thinking, and personal responsibility. Every day, we live our vision: She WILL… Graduate. Go to College. Succeed.

GLOW Academy: Empowering the Whole Girl
At GLOW Academy, our "whole girl" approach creates a learning environment that nurtures every aspect of our students' development—emotional, physical, and academic. We foster a strong, supportive culture among faculty, students, families, and the broader Wilmington community, ensuring every student feels valued and empowered.

As an affiliate of the Young Women’s Leadership Network—pioneers of successful all-girls schools since 1996—we are part of a proven educational model. At GLOW, students are encouraged to dream big and provided with the structure, resources, and support to achieve those dreams.

Our emphasis on academic rigor, personal responsibility, and college preparedness challenges students to excel both in and beyond the classroom. By closing the opportunity and achievement gaps, we’re building a brighter future for our students and our community.

Success

SUCCESS

At GLOW, we are shaping a campus and curriculum designed to prepare students for the demands of today’s colleges and careers. Our 21st-century approach integrates innovative teaching methods and dynamic curriculum delivery, fostering creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving—skills essential in today’s ever-evolving society.

The result is a learning environment that not only meets current standards but strives to sets new benchmarks for student success and achievement.

Confidence

CONFIDENCE

Research consistently highlights the benefits of a single-gender learning environment for girls. In addition to reducing distractions from appearance and social pressures, girls in these settings often report greater confidence in traditionally male-dominated subjects like science, technology, engineering, and math.

The measurable outcomes speak volumes: disadvantaged students in single-gender schools outperform their peers in coeducational settings on standardized tests in math, reading, science, and civics. They demonstrate stronger leadership skills, complete more homework, take challenging courses, and maintain a more positive attitude toward school. Single-gender environments also help break down stereotypes, empowering girls to envision and achieve what they might have thought impossible.

At GLOW, we leverage this unique environment to foster leadership, build self-confidence, and inspire a culture of empowerment and girl-power, supported by strong role models every step of the way.

Funding
